Apple Pay: Educating Employees is Key to Success
Apple PayTM is only a month old, but the mobile payment system has gotten off to a great start and is already being used in participating retailers' transactions. One retailer is already singing its praises. Jason Buechel, CIO for Whole Foods Market, Inc., said that over 150,000 transactions have already been made using Apple Pay, reported by MC Services, a professional Apple training and consulting firm.
The financial impact is clear, but implementing Apple Pay is a whole other topic. Whether you are still considering Apple Pay or you already accept it, the overall success will involve educating customers on the value and then helping use it at point-of-sale.
As a marketer who is also a consumer, I personally tested out Apple Pay at a participating retailer’s location and it was as easy as expected. The only issue was that the sales associate wasn’t familiar with the process. That got me asking the question – are employees being trained on the hottest mobile payment option to enter the market? If you do accept Apple Pay, how can you ensure that you don’t leave customers guessing if they can use Apple Pay or not?
TSYS Merchant Solution’s experts have two recommendations:
- Educate your employees on how your customers can accept Apple Pay. In many cases, employees are typically not aware of the process and how simple it is to accept mobile payments within the store.
- Have signage, both on the door of the business and at the POS terminal, with brief instructions.
As experts in payment processing, TSYS Merchant Solutions’ experts created a variety of educational materials to support you in offering Apple Pay. Check out our brief video tutorial on how to accept an Apple Payment and share it with your employees.
